Dog handling security · Manchester

Security dogs.
Professional handlers.

Trained dog-and-handler teams protecting construction sites, yards, commercial premises and empty buildings.

Who we are

One job, done properly: security dogs with professional handlers.

Merlin K9 is a Manchester security company built around a single service. Every site we protect gets a trained security dog, its own handler, a written plan agreed with you and a report after every shift.

About Merlin K9

Detect

A security dog hears and smells people long before a person can see them: behind a container, inside a building, in a dark corner of the yard. The handler reads the dog and checks.

Deter

Few people will try a fence with a dog team on the other side. A visible handler and dog, at times nobody can predict, makes your site the one they leave alone.

Report

Every shift ends with a written report: patrols completed, check points, anything found and what was done about it. You always know what happened on your site.

Services

Four ways to protect your site

Every service is delivered by a trained security dog and its handler, working together to a plan agreed with you.

About this service

Shift by shift

A night with Merlin K9

From lock-up to opening, this is how a typical shift runs on your site.

  1. Lock-up

    Handover from your team

The handler and dog arrive before your team leaves, sign in and take any updates about the site.

  2. Early evening

    First full patrol

A full walk of the boundary, gates and buildings to confirm the site is secure at the start of the shift.

  3. Through the night

    Varied patrols

Further patrols at times nobody can predict, with the dog working the wind along fence lines and around buildings.

  4. If anything is found

    Act on the plan

The handler follows the escalation plan agreed with you: who to call, when to call the police and how to record it.

  5. Morning

    Handover and report

A final check, a handover to the first person on site, and a written report of the night.

What we stop

The problems we solve after dark

When a site is empty, these are the losses we see most. Here's what a dog team does about each one.

The problemWhat our dog team does

Plant and machinery

Excavators, dumpers, generators and vehicles taken overnight.

Machines checked on every patrol, and the dog picks up anyone around them.

Fuel

Diesel siphoned from tanks, bowsers and machines.

Tanks, bowsers and parked vehicles checked at unpredictable times.

Cable and metal

Copper, lead and cable stripped from sites and buildings.

Buildings and stores checked for signs of entry and stripping.

Tools and materials

Stock, tools and deliveries lifted from yards and cabins.

Containers, cabins and stores are on the check point list.

Trespass and squatting

Unauthorised access to empty buildings, compounds and land.

The dog alerts to people inside buildings and compounds.

Vandalism and arson

Damage and fires that stop work and put people at risk.

A visible dog team makes the site a poor target.

Questions

K9 security, answered

Anything else? Call or WhatsApp us on +44 7533 640422 and talk to the people planning your cover.

01What is a security dog patrol?

A trained security dog and its handler walk your site on foot, on routes agreed with you, checking the boundary, gates and buildings. The dog detects people the handler can't see, and the team is a strong deterrent.

02Are the dogs safe around people?

Our dogs work on lead and under the handler's control at all times. Routes and procedures are agreed with you to keep the dog team safe around staff, visitors and the public.

03When is a dog team the right choice?

Dog teams suit large, dark or cluttered sites, empty buildings, and sites with a history of break-ins, where a person alone or cameras alone leave gaps.

04Can you work alongside our alarm, CCTV or guards?

Yes. We provide dog-and-handler security only, but we often work alongside other systems. We agree with you who does what.

05How are the dogs looked after?

Dogs get rest breaks and water through every shift, travel in ventilated transport, have a safe rest area on site and are rotated so no dog is overworked.

06Do you need a long contract?

Not necessarily. Tell us what you need, whether that's a few nights, a holiday period or ongoing cover, and we'll agree terms before we start.

07How much does it cost?

It depends on the hours, the number of nights, the type of cover and the size of the site. After the site visit you get a written price with no surprises.

08Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Manchester. Get in touch to check cover for your site.
