Dog handler standing beside a lit site cabin at a compound gate at night with a German Shepherd sitting at heel

Service

On-Site Dog Handler

A handler and security dog based on your site for the full shift, keeping watch and patrolling at set intervals.

Overview

What the service is

Some sites need someone there all night, not a visit. An on-site dog handler stays on your premises for the whole shift, usually based at the gate or a site cabin, and walks the site at agreed intervals with the dog.

It suits sites with valuable plant or stock, a single main entrance, a recent history of trouble, or an insurer who wants a presence on site from lock-up to opening.

Because the team is on site all shift, they get to know the layout, the normal sounds and lights, and the people who come and go. Anything out of the ordinary stands out.

What's included

What the service covers

Everything below is agreed with you and written into the plan before the first shift.

A base on site

The handler is based at the gate, gatehouse or cabin, with a clear view of the main entrance.

Patrols between watches

The dog team walks the site at agreed intervals, varying the timing through the night.

Lock-up and opening

Checks that gates, doors and shutters are secure at lock-up, and a handover at opening.

Gate control

If agreed, the handler can check late deliveries or contractors against a list you provide.

Agreed escalation

Clear instructions on who to call and when, written into the plan before we start.

Shift reports

A record of patrols, checks, visitors and anything found, after every shift.

Shift by shift

A typical shift, start to finish

How a shift runs from the moment the handler and dog arrive.

  1. Lock-up

    Handover from your team

The handler arrives before your team leaves, takes a handover and checks the site is secure.

  2. Early evening

    First full patrol

A full walk of the site with the dog to confirm everything is as it should be.

  3. Overnight

    Watch and patrol

The handler keeps watch from the base point and patrols at agreed intervals, varying the timing.

  4. Morning

    Opening checks

A final patrol before opening and a handover to the first person on site.

  5. After the shift

    Report

A written report of the shift: patrols, checks, visitors and anything found.

Why it works

Why keep a dog team on site

A team that stays on site all shift sees the whole night, not a snapshot. The handler notices small changes, and the dog is there to pick up anyone who tries the site between patrols.

It also means a person is there when something happens. The handler can check, call the right people and keep the area under watch while help arrives.

What we'll need from you

  • A sheltered base for the handler (cabin, gatehouse or similar)
  • A quiet, safe rest area for the dog
  • Access to toilets and somewhere to make a drink
  • A list of anyone expected on site after hours
  • A named contact or keyholder

Questions

Questions, answered

Anything else? Call or WhatsApp us on +44 7533 640422 and talk to the people planning your cover.

01Where does the handler stay during the shift?

At a base point agreed with you, often a site cabin or gatehouse. The dog needs a safe, quiet rest area too, which we agree on the site visit.

02How often does the handler patrol?

The patrol interval is agreed with you and set out in the plan. The timing is varied so it isn't predictable.

03Can you do lock-up and opening?

Yes, if it's agreed in the plan. The handler can check the site is secure at lock-up and hand over at opening.

04Will the same handler be on our site?

Where we can, we keep the same handler on the same site so they know the layout and the people.

05Can the handler deal with late deliveries?

If you want that, give us a list of who is expected and the handler will check them in. Anything unexpected is passed to your contact.
