Sites we cover
Dog-and-handler security for building sites when the gates are locked and the workforce has gone home.
Overview
A construction site changes every week, and so do its weak points. New scaffolding gives a way up, new deliveries sit in the open, and the Heras line moves as the build grows.
A dog team suits building sites well: the dog finds people hiding among materials and plant, and the handler checks the compound, cabins and containers on every patrol.
The risks
And what our dog team does about each one.
Excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, generators and attachments taken or damaged overnight.
Plant is checked on every patrol, and the dog picks up anyone in or around the machines.
Tools, cable, copper, timber and deliveries taken from stores and containers.
Containers, cabins and laydown areas are on the check point list and recorded each patrol.
Diesel siphoned from bowsers, tanks and parked machines.
Bowsers and fuel stores are checked at varied times through the night.
Heras panels lifted, unclipped or cut to get on site.
The handler walks the Heras line and reports moved or unclipped panels straight away.
People climbing scaffolding or entering unfinished buildings, putting themselves at risk.
The dog finds people on scaffolding or in unfinished buildings before they get hurt or cause damage.
Damage and fires that hold up the build and add cost.
A visible dog team at unpredictable times makes the site a poor target.

Our approach
The handler and dog walk the Heras line and the compound, check containers, cabins and plant, and look for panels that have been moved. The route is reviewed with the site manager as the build changes shape.
Cover is planned around the programme: evenings and weekends while work is under way, and longer cover over holiday shutdowns.
Shift by shift
How a shift runs on construction sites.
The handler signs in, follows the site induction and takes any updates on new hazards or deliveries.
A full walk of the fence line, gates, compound, cabins and containers.
Varied patrols past the plant, fuel store and material laydown areas.
A written report for the site manager before the first trades arrive.
