Security dog handler in hi-vis walking a German Shepherd along a floodlit mesh perimeter fence at night

Service

Perimeter Dog Patrols

A trained security dog and its handler on foot along your boundary, gates and yard, on routes agreed with you.

Overview

What the service is

Most break-ins start at the edge of a site: a weak fence panel, a gate left on the latch, a dark corner behind the units. A perimeter dog patrol puts a handler and a working dog on that edge, on foot, through the hours your site is most exposed.

The dog picks up people and movement long before a person can, through scent and hearing as much as sight. A visible dog team on the fence line also gives anyone watching the site a clear reason to move on.

We plan the route around your site, not a template. Before the first shift we walk the boundary with you, agree the check points and set the hours, so you know exactly what is covered and when.

What's included

What the service covers

Everything below is agreed with you and written into the plan before the first shift.

Boundary walks

Fence lines, gates and the outside of buildings walked on foot, including the dark corners cameras miss.

Agreed check points

Gates, shutters, padlocks, fuel stores and compounds checked and recorded on every patrol.

Signs of entry

Cut or lifted fencing, forced doors, moved panels, footprints and anything out of place.

Unpredictable timing

Patrol times varied through the shift, so nobody watching can learn the routine.

Agreed escalation

A clear plan for what the handler does if something is found: who to call and when to call the police.

Shift reports

Patrol times, check point results and anything found, sent to you after every shift.

Shift by shift

A typical shift, start to finish

How a shift runs from the moment the handler and dog arrive.

  1. Start

    Arrive and sign in

The handler arrives with the dog, signs in and checks for any updates or notes from your site team.

  2. First patrol

    Full boundary check

A full walk of the agreed route to confirm the site is secure at the start of the shift.

  3. Through the night

    Varied patrols

Further patrols at varied times, with the dog working the wind along the fence lines and around buildings.

  4. If needed

    Act on the plan

If something is found, the handler follows the escalation plan agreed with you and records it.

  5. End

    Handover and report

A final check, sign out and a written report of patrols completed and anything found.

Why it works

Why a dog on the fence line works

A security dog can detect a person hiding behind a container or inside a building from well beyond what a handler can see, especially at night. That makes a dog team far more effective on large, dark or cluttered sites than a person patrolling alone.

The dog is also a deterrent in its own right. People who come to look at a site rarely try the fence once they've seen a dog team walking it.

What we'll need from you

  • A safe walking route around the boundary
  • Access to the gates and areas you want checked
  • A named contact or keyholder for the shift
  • Any site rules, hazards or no-go areas
  • Somewhere safe to park the dog van

Questions

Questions, answered

Anything else? Call or WhatsApp us on +44 7533 640422 and talk to the people planning your cover.

01Is the dog on a lead?

Yes. Our dogs work on lead and under the handler's control at all times on patrol.

02Can we book patrols just for nights?

Yes. Most clients book patrols for the hours their site is closed: evenings, nights and weekends. The hours are agreed with you.

03How many patrols happen in a shift?

That depends on the size of the site and the hours. We agree the number of patrols and the check points in the plan, and vary the timing between them.

04Do you need access to the whole site?

We need access to the areas you want patrolled and a safe route for the dog team. Anything that is off limits is agreed on the site visit.

05What happens if the handler finds a problem?

The handler follows the plan agreed with you: who to call, when to call the police and how to record it. It all goes in the shift report.

06Can patrols work alongside our alarm or CCTV?

Yes. Many sites use a dog team as well as cameras or alarms. We agree with you who does what, so nothing is missed.
